Langar is a communal meal shared by the Sikhs in a Gurdwara as a purpose of religious devotion. In Sikhism, offering langar is the greatest way of worshiping God. It is served in almost every gurdwara around the world daily. Everyone can have this langar, regardless of their religion, belief, caste, or color. It’s carried out voluntarily so whether it’s cooking, serving, or cleaning after – everything is considered as a religious devotion. Every Sikh believes in offering langar and considers it the matter of utmost importance. Sikhs are always interested in helping others because by doing this, they feel like they are serving God. In langar, only vegetarian food is served so people from all religions can eat. Sikhs don’t do something like a charity because it shows the inequality between the giver and the receiver. Instead of that, their faith encourages them to help others in a way that shows equality and love. The offering of langar depicts “sharing,” not any “inequality” as everyone eats there together.
Langar emphasizes equality, rather than a scrumptious meal. The food that is served in langar is typically South Asian and contains soup, vegetables, rice, bread, and a dessert. It’s always vegetarian food (without any meat, eggs) so that people with all believe can eat it regardless of any restrictions. When the food is prepared by the volunteers, everyone gathers for Ardaas (supplication) during which the meal is blessed with a prayer, and then the food is distributed among everyone.
At Ranjit Nagara, our mission is to help needy people by meeting their necessities. Hunger is the extreme condition of poverty. In the world of today where people are dying from hunger, it has become important to help them as much as we can. We, at Ranjit Nagara, provides a platform to people who want to help others as a purpose of religious devotion. If you are interested in helping the needy and want to offer them the food, you are the right place. Get in touch with us to adopt langar and save the people from hunger.
We are a non-profit organization who provides a platform to Sikhs who want to donate as a religious devotion. We collect the donations and divide them into partitions i.e. for langar, for scholarships, for an occupational center, etc. Once the budget is set for langar, we buy the required groceries to prepare the langar.
The volunteers prepare the food in the kitchen of a gurdwara or a hallway. Langar usually contains vegetarian food (without any meat, eggs) so that people with all believe can eat it regardless of any restrictions. Langar includes rice, bread, vegetables, soup, and a dessert.
When the food is prepared by the volunteers, everyone gathers for Ardaas (supplication) during which the meal is blessed with a prayer, and then the food is distributed among everyone regardless of faith, religion, or status.
